Diodes Measurements on the diode-conducting properties of some typical components over a wide range of currents, with an emphasis on voltage-current relationships at very low currents. The 2N4117A is a 0.25mA n-channel JFET with its source and drain tied together, so the gate becomes the anode of a high-quality diode. PN4117A plastic TO-92 parts are available for less than 50 cents.

Some of the parts shown have glass or plastic packages, which means that light can shine on the junction changing the I-V curve. This can disturb your measurements of a circuit on the workbench. For example the 1N4148 family of parts has a photocurrent of about 2nA under my bench light. The 1N458 measured 0.2nA and the red LED was 10nA.
